Science

We just finished up the chapter on force and motion/simple machines . The kids did a super job on their test. Every single one of them passed with flying colors! Here are some pictures of them building and launching the catapults they made. Those are marshmallows they are launching! Yes, they did each get one marshmallow to eat too!

During the first week of school the children were faced with a problem. They had to save Fred! Fred was a Gummie worm that had been stranded in the ocean when his boat(a plastic cup)capsized! This left Fred in a great predicament! He was found lying on top of his boat but his life preserver(Life Saver candy)was beneath his boat. The students could only use 4 paper clips to somehow recover the life preserver from beneath the boat to rescue poor Fred. These are a few pictures of our fun.

Currently we are learning about force and motion. So far we have made hovercrafts to prove that air does have an effect on friction and motion. Unfortunately I wasn't in blog mode at the time and forgot to take pictures. I am sorry. I promise for the catapult making I will have my camera ready. Yes that's right we will be making marshmallow catapults as part of our study about simple machines. To make these we need your help to collect the plastic caps of milk jugs and empty boxes of kleenexes. Just send them to school with your student. Each student only needs one of each. Pictures to follow! I promise.

Practicing our science vocabulary with one another in preparation for the chapter test that is coming soon!

We have been learning about photosynthesis. Here are a few pictures of our Photosynthesis trees.

Plants! We are currently creating "Blossom Books". These are a type of foldable or lap book that helps us review what we have learned about plants. The students had to master some pretty complicated origami folds to create these books. We  look forward to sharing our books with you when they are completed.

As promised........Here are pictures of our Blossom books. If you wish to see them in person they are outside the office on top of the 4K lockers. We made these to wrap up our chapter on flowers and plants. Yes, that means there will be a test coming up later this week. Please practice the vocabulary cards with your children.
